SPRING FLING ART & CRAFT EVENT GENERATES BIG INCREASE.
The 'Spring Fling' arts event held across Dumfries and Galloway generated more than £360,000 for the region's economy last year (2006) according to a BBC report. The three-day programme of events was staged last May. In an innovative move, local artists and craft makers opened up their studios to the public. Figures from last year's event indicate more than 19,000 visits were made to arts and crafts workshops across the region. The event generated record studio sales which topped £100,000 - a staggering 21% increase on 2005! This year, 2007, will mark the fifth anniversary of the Spring Fling in Dumfries & Galloway. Around 70 studios are lined up to showcase the work of an estimated 92 artists and craft workers from across Dumfries & Galloway. If you are into art, the Spring Fling is the event for you!
