Welcome 2 Dumfries & Galloway! hotels, restaurants, businesses, guest houses, events, services, festivals, gardens and more.
Restaurants in Dumfries and Galloway.
Food and drink plays a major role in Dumfries and Galloway. Fresh local produce is plentiful, and much of it makes its way into our Smokehouses (of which there are several) and restaurants. (Our snack bars also use much fresh produce too, incidentally). With miles of coats, and miles of countryside, it is no surprise that we have an abundance of greta produce! Game, fish, seafood, smoked cheeses, local wine, ales and whisky, preserves and home produce...no wonder we have a 'Food Town' (Castle Douglas) to compliment our 'Book Town' (Wigtown).
Although some restaurants stand by themselves, many are situated inside hotels or pubs. Service ranges from buffet-style self-service to haute-cuisine and all the trimmings! Dress codes can vary - worth checking when booking (and remember, availability can be difficult during the summer) - as do prices.
Food-wise, across Dumfries & Galloway, expect to see Scottish Beef, venison, plenty of game, seafood (such as fresh or locally smoked mackeral, fresh crab - often brought in that same day, cod, bass, scallops etc) served with a selection of fresh vegetables from local sources in season, fresh baked bread, some great sauces, a very wide range of desserts ranging from the usual chocolate excesses to the cheese selection - usually with a good range of local and international cheeses too. And of course...wines. And beers..and a massive selection of Malts and blended whiskies (domestic and foreign). Whatever your budget, there will be a restaurant for you! (If in doubt, ask the locals where they eat!)
Dumfries & Galloway has an international admix too. For a taste of the exotic or even European, we have Indian, Thai, Chinese, Bangladesh, Italian, French, Mexican...oh, and Scottish too! A number of restaurants offer free local delivery within a certain radius, but most will accept phone orders from outlying areas. Ring your menu order in, and by the time you've negotiated the farm track, three gates, two back roads and the high street, your order is ready! Better yet, why not book a table and enjoy a set meal for...two, four, eight. maybe more? The quality is very high, and as you would expect, uses much local produce (meat, seafood etc) in the dishes. We shall be adding a review section here soon...check back for details! Here's a small selection to whet your appetite:
