Food and Drink in Dumfries and Galloway.
Dumfries and Galloway have a growing number of food and drink producers. Organic food is becoming increasingly popular - and more widely available - across the region and we have some great outlets, everything from Ice Cream to Smoked Venison seemsd to be available. Naturally, our smokehouses are making the most of this abundance of fresh, local produce too.
Look out for local smoked salmon, fresh caught crab and seafood, all types of fish can be obtained from numerous outlets locally, much of it caught off the coast of Galloway. Organic produce covers fruit, vegetables, wines and beers too.
Beef is plentiful, and of outstanding quality in Galloway and Dumfriesshire, and many farmers supply their produce direct to the butcher or other outlet, ensuring high quality and traceable supplies. Castle Douglas may be our 'Food Town', but other towns and villages have their local specialities too. Whether you are a meat eater or a veggie, there is bound to be something to whet the appetite for you here in Galloway and Dumfriesshire. Here's a few links for you to check out - and please tell them we sent you!

Castle Douglas Food Town.: With approximately fifty local businesses involved in either producing or selling food and drink, it is easy to see why Castle Douglas has been designated a Food Town. The vibrancy and appeal of the town lies largely in the draw of the shops and cafés, restaurants and hotels. In an age when consumers are often given conflicting advice about what food is good for them and which constituents they should avoid, it is refreshing that Castle Douglas offers high quality local produce which everyone can enjoy.
Sulwath Brewers. : The company was first established in February 1996, although production started in autumn 1995 with the remit to brew traditional beers, using local produce where possible to provide natural real ales endemic to this Region. The renowned softness of the water produces beers that have a round and mellow flavour, without the harshness that harder water tends to create. Only the best quality Maris Otter malts are used in each full mash brew, with addition of whole hops fleurets from the Hereford area.
